My Story

For nearly two decades, I've designed homes that are layered, eclectic, and full of character—spaces where vintage treasures, bold color, and soulful art come together to tell a story. My path has taken me from San Francisco to Saint Paul, shaping interiors that are as personal as they are beautiful.

I grew up in Houston with an early love for creativity—whether it was painting, sketching floor plans, or building elaborate forts. That spark led me to San Francisco, where I studied Interior Design & Architecture at the Academy of Art University. After school, I worked for both a design firm and a lighting company before joining HSH Interiors, where over seven years I designed an incredible range of projects—from converted churches and historic San Francisco residences to a four-year Mill Valley dream home layered with art, vintage finds, and deeply personal custom details. I later joined Heather Peterson Design as a senior designer, overseeing projects from Piedmont and Tahoe to Greenwich, Chicago, and the Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis, before deciding it was time to build something of my own.

In early 2025, I launched Lauren Hunter Design — and it's been the best decision I've ever made. Running my own studio means I get to do things my way: bold color, unexpected combinations, obsessive attention to detail, and a design process that's fully focused on you. No compromises, no second-guessing — just interiors that are layered, intentional, and unmistakably personal.

My work is rooted in the belief that design is about people first — how they live, what they love, and how a home can hold all of it beautifully.

Outside of design, I'm usually outdoors, at a concert, wandering an estate sale, or lost in an art museum. Fashion, nature, forgotten treasures, and the creative lives of interesting people — it all finds its way into the work somehow.
