What to Expect When Working With an Interior Designer

Hiring an interior designer is an exciting step—but if you’ve never done it before, you might wonder what the process actually looks like. Every designer works a little differently, but I believe in a collaborative, personalized approach that makes the experience feel clear and approachable from start to finish.

Here’s a look at what you can expect when we work together:

1. Discovery Call

We’ll start with a quick 15–30 minute call to get to know each other. This is your chance to tell me about your home, your goals, and how you want your space to feel. I’ll share a bit about how I work, and if it feels like a good fit, I’ll send over a welcome package and client questionnaire to kick things off.

2. Initial Consultation

Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, we’ll meet for a 1–2 hour on-site consultation. This is where I dive deeper into how you live, your style preferences, budget, and any architectural details that need to be considered. We’ll walk through your space, discuss your needs, and I’ll take measurements and photos to inform the design.

3. Design Development

This is where the vision starts to take shape. I’ll create a detailed design concept that includes mood boards, color palettes, and space planning. You’ll see proposed furniture layouts and how everything flows together within your space. We’ll review the plan together, make refinements as needed, and ensure it all feels just right before moving into sourcing.

4. Sourcing & Selections

Once the design is approved, I’ll begin sourcing furnishings, lighting, textiles, finishes, and more. I’ll handle the legwork—tracking down the right pieces, comparing options, and making sure everything aligns with the overall concept. This stage also includes custom elements and trade-only finds you won’t see at your average showroom.

5. Procurement & Project Management

Depending on the scope of your project, I can assist with ordering, tracking shipments, coordinating with tradespeople, and making sure everything arrives on time and in great condition. I’m your advocate throughout the process, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

6. Installation & Styling

The best part! Once everything is ready, I’ll oversee installation—placing furniture, hanging art, styling surfaces, and making the space feel complete. It’s where all the planning and decisions come together into something that feels like you.

7. Ongoing Support

Even after installation, I’m available to answer questions, source a few finishing touches, or support future projects as your home continues to evolve.

Working with a designer is about more than just making a space look beautiful—it’s about creating a home that feels thoughtful, functional, and uniquely yours. My job is to make the process feel easy, inspired, and collaborative every step of the way.
